Executive Director Newsletter - 8-29-14 - Associate Board

Last Saturday the Associate Board of the West Side Catholic Center held their first major fundraising event. Called Sips & Swigs, over 220 people gathered at the 78th  Street Studios in Cleveland for beer tastings, food trucks and music. It was a beautiful sunny, breezy afternoon. I lost count of how many beers that were available to taste – there were a lot. I am not a beer drinker so I was happy that Cleveland Whiskey was there to give out samples of three select bourbons. The Special Reserve was my favorite.

Fired Up Taco had great tacos and Fired Up Pizza Catering made a tasty margherita pizza. Of course no event is complete without dessert and Weber’s Premium Custard and Ice Cream fit the bill. The Higbee’s Frosted Malt is my all-time favorite flavor.

Highlights of the afternoon included a dunk tank and photo taking with Framester. Thank you to all the Associate Board members who got wet in the dunk tank for a good cause. A special shout out to WSCC Board member Mike Solecki who raised some extra money when he agreed to get dunked! Music by the bands Blu Monsoon and Half Moon Jack made the event perfect.

The whole day was the culmination of much time and effort by so many people and I won’t try to name them all. I am especially grateful to Bridie Chambers and Beth Watson, Event Co-Chairs and Jennie Highfield, Director of Advancement. Their efforts and leadership resulted in a most memorable and enjoyable afternoon. I do hope a 2nd Annual Sips & Swigs will be on the calendar in 2015.

Summer is winding down and we have the Annual Fundraising Drive and Warm Hearts Winter Nights on the horizon. Soon we begin to plan for The Giving Tree and other holiday activities. But today the WSCC is closed as the staff is sailing on the Nautica Queen. Every year we take time to gather for some fun, relaxation and to enjoy each other’s company. The weather is cooperating and it looks like it will be a beautiful afternoon. Enjoy your holiday weekend.

As always, thank you for reading,
